5 Years Old Homemade Wine

2019
Videography, Documentary

About This Piece

This video is a departure from tech reviews, adopting a Slow-Cinema / Documentary style to capture a personal family memory. It documents the unsealing of a traditional ceramic pickle jar (Bharani) containing homemade gooseberry wine that had been aging for 5 years (sealed on April 27, 2014, and opened in May 2019).

The Aesthetic: "Indian Household" Nostalgia

  • The Setting: Shot on a simple dining table covered in newspaper, honoring the messy reality of home fermentation.
  • The Props: Repurposed Maltova and Bournvita jars used for filtration, a "Parry's" ceramic lid, and steel plates.
  • The Sound: There is no voiceover. The audio consists entirely of ambient sounds—the rustling of paper, the "glug" of the pouring wine, and a calm acoustic piano track to emphasize patience.

The Process

The video focuses on the texture and sensory details of the process:

  1. The Reveal: Untying the string and peeling back layers of cloth to reveal the dark, oxidized gooseberries after half a decade in the dark.
  2. Filtration: Using a clean white cloth to hand-squeeze the pulp, extracting a deep amber liquid.
  3. The Verdict: The visual payoff isn't a graph or a benchmark, but the subtle nod of approval from my father after the first sip.
