Basic Life Support & AED Training

On April 9 and 10, 2026, I participated in an intensive training program for Basic Life Support (BLS) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED). This training is a mandatory component of the new Part 1 MD curriculum (the CBDC batch - Competency Based Dynamic Curriculum) as mandated by the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH).

Program Details

The training was structured into two phases:

  1. Online Coursework (April 9, 2026): Completed the comprehensive online module as prescribed by the American Heart Association (AHA), covering the theoretical foundations of high-quality CPR, relief of choking, and AED operation.
  2. Practical Training & Examination (April 10, 2026): Conducted at our college, White Memorial Homoeo Medical College, the hands-on session was led by Mr. Arun Pillai from the Charles Institute.

Training Highlights

The practical sessions were invaluable, providing direct experience with:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Practicing effective chest compressions and rescue breaths on high-fidelity manikins.
  • AED Operation: Detailed training on the sequence of steps required to use an Automated External Defibrillator safely and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Team Dynamics: Understanding the importance of coordinated effort during multi-rescuer resuscitation attempts.

The day concluded with a rigorous practical examination and assessment, which I successfully cleared to earn my certification as a BLS Provider.

Venue and Implementation

Due to the large number of MD scholars in our batch, the Charles Institute trainers kindly agreed to come to our campus at White Memorial Homoeo Medical College, Attoor to perform the training. This allowed for a focused and collaborative learning environment amongst my colleagues.

As medical professionals, maintaining these life-saving skills is paramount. This certification ensures that we are prepared to act decisively in cardiac emergencies, both within clinical settings and in the community.
