The Homoeo Lighten — West Zone Conference 2026, held on January 7th in Coimbatore, was more than just an academic gathering; it was a convergence of the finest minds in Homoeopathic education and practice in Tamil Nadu. Organized by the Tamilnadu Homoeopathy Medical Council in collaboration with the "West Zone Colleges," the event aimed to sharpen clinical acumen and foster a spirit of inquiry among practitioners and students alike.

A Gathering of Educational Leaders

One of the most enriching aspects of this conference was the opportunity to interact personally with the Principals of all the prestigious West Zone Homoeopathic Medical Colleges. It was a rare occasion to see leaders from diverse institutions—ranging from RVS and Martin to Excel, Vinayaka Mission's, and Government Medical College, Thirumangalam—united by a common vision for the advancement of our system.

Engaging with faculty members and these institutional heads provided me with a broader perspective on the current state of homoeopathic education and the collective efforts being made to standardize and elevate clinical training.

Clinical Insights: The BIRADS Conversation

The scientific sessions were meticulously curated, covering diverse topics from the Millesimal scale in skin disorders (Dr. Vijay Krishna) to surgical diseases (Dr. S.G. Biju). However, the session that struck a particularly deep chord with me was by Dr. Khushali Gambhir on the "Role of Homoeopathy in Breast Health."

Dr. Khushali presented compelling evidence from her experience in treating BIRADS 2-4 breast cancers. Her structured approach and clinical honesty were refreshing.

The Limits and Scope in High-Grade Pathology

Off-stage, I had the privilege of a private discussion with Dr. Khushali. I asked her specifically about her experience with BIRADS 5 cases—highly suggestive of malignancy with a roughly 95% probability of cancer.

Her response was candid and revealing about the practical realities of private practice. She noted that it is difficult to even get BIRADS 4 cases as primary contacts. Most of her successful high-grade cases were patients who had been declined treatment by previous physicians due to various complexities, or who explicitly sought out homoeopathic alternatives.

She pointed out a critical systemic reality: BIRADS 5 cases rarely reach a private homoeopath as a primary option. Once diagnosed at that level, the immediate referral pathway is almost exclusively towards surgery or chemotherapy.

"There is also the legal aspect of ethics... unless one is working within a governmental or research institution, studying the exclusive homoeopathic management of BIRADS 5 is nearly impossible."

This conversation highlighted a crucial gap. While private practitioners do incredible work, the systematic study of advanced pathologies requires institutional support to navigate the ethical, legal, and clinical complexities. It reinforced my belief in the need for integrated research setups where homoeopathy can be evaluated as an adjuvant or primary therapy in high-grade conditions under rigorous observation.

Conclusion

The conference concluded with a Valedictory function graced by Thiru. Ma. Subramaniyan, the Hon'ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu. His presence underscored the government's growing support for AYUSH systems.

For me, Homoeo Lighten 2026 was a reminder that while our science is potent, its full realization requires not just individual brilliance, but institutional strength and ethical courage to tackle the most challenging diagnoses.
