About This Piece

This cinematic short is a specialized "slow living" vlog focusing on the aesthetics of a traditional Kerala morning. It was my first project combining Premiere Pro (editing) and After Effects (transitions), created with a "no narration" approach to let the visuals and sound design tell the story.

The Concept ("Farm-to-Table")

Instead of a standard cooking video, this short emphasizes the origin and labor behind a simple breakfast.

  • The Setting: "Vasantha Cottage" – a traditional home amidst green foliage.
  • The Subject: Fresh Puttu (steamed rice cake), a staple Kerala breakfast.
  • The Angle: The video traces the journey of the coconut—from husking the dry shell with a heavy iron blade (Pareva) to scraping the fresh meat, and finally steaming it with rice flour in a Puttu Kutti.

Creative Direction

  • Audio-Visual Sync: Cuts are rhythmically timed to the lo-fi beat.
  • Color & Texture: Highlighting the earth tones of the husk, the vibrant white of the grated coconut, and the rising steam.
  • Cast: My parents, captured in their natural element during the morning routine.
