This is a story about being a fanboy and winning being a fanboy.

The Contest

A massive Facebook group (10k+ members) for the movie Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name) held a contest. The prize? Moderator status. Power. Glory. Internet fame.

The Strategy

While others posted screenshots, I opened Photoshop. I wanted to capture the feeling of the movie—the distance, the twilight, the connection.

• The Result: It became the most-liked entry.
• The Reward: I became a Mod. It was my first taste of using design to build community influence.
